note collection
Vector vs raster
Raster is image or images created with pixels, can be a photograph or vid, can be different digital formats such as jpg, gif, ping, psd, tiff, mpg, mov, wmv, mp4
Vector is a mathematically based method for creating line data. Can be used to make video games. Vector files are scalable without losing image quality. Because they are math based, vector files are smaller.
Vector graphics can be stored in different formats, Ai, pdf, wmf, flc. Font data is stored as vector, are resolution “independent”.
Vector vs bit mat
Vector is scalable, bitmap loses quality when scaled up, bitmap is the best for photographs and video fonts are stored as vector to save quality.
Design the principles and elements
Design elements are the basic units of a visual image
The principles of design govern the relationships of the elements used and organize the composition as a whole.
All imaginary art design and photography alike are comprised of elements that can be broken and analyzed by its visual.
Design elements
Space, line, color, shape, texture, value, and balance.
- Space: can exist in two or three dimension, it can refer to a positive space or a negative one. It can also refer to foreground mid background elements
- Color: is the most important element in a design
- Texture
- Value
- balance
Design principles
- Unity
- Variety
- Repetition
- Harmony
- Proximity
- Proportion
- Functionality
Colors
Primary colors are blue yellow and red, these colors could also create secondary colors if they were to be mixed up
- Subtractive color: is a pigment generated model
- Additive color: is a light generated model
- Rgb:red green blue, light generated model
- Rgy:red green yellow pigment generated model
- Cmyk:cyan magenta yellow black print process model
- monochrome:tints shades and tones of a single hue
- Grayscale:black and white only
- Web safe mode: hexadecimal compatible
- tints: add white to pure hue
- shades: add black to pure hue
- tones: add grey to pure hue
Cultural and psychological color associations
- These color associations are generated from cultural and contemporary colors
Why color matters
- 73% of purchasing decisions are now made in-store
- Catching the shoppers eye and conveying information efficiently are critical to successful sales
- Color increases brand recognition by up to 80%
Design and typography
- Legibility vs reality
- Expensive fonts/type for eye readability
- Clean serif /sans -serif fonts type for smaller body copy
- Sans-serif fonts designed for screen viewing assist and readability
- Different fonts can have a different effect to the eye
- Too much fonts confuse the reader
- Fonts that are too small may cause ambiguity
- Use capitals and lowercase letters for optimum clarity all capitals = shouting
- Left alignment is easier for the eye to read
